What snacks DON'T or chickens like???

I finally got around to ordering one of those little balls that you put treats in, and the chickens are suppose to play nice, and kick it around, and enjoy the treats. They did the first day, but today it became the fighting ball. Now my girls do get into little spats, but today was full blown war. I had to go out, and throw down some more treats before they killed each other, no lie. I guess from now on if they play with that thing it will be for amusement only, because I wont be putting anymore treats in the dang thing. If you want to try it, it may be ok for your girls, but I would keep a close eye on them.

Someone on another thread said they made a treat dispensing toy for their birds by drilling holes in a Gatorade bottle then putting treats like corn and oats in it. Maybe you could make a few so they all have something to play with:)

I'm glad you mentioned popped popcorn. At my husbands work they have popcorn available all day for the employees and customers. At the end of the day they throw away what is left. He asked me if the chickens would eat it, and I wondered about the kernal and if it would bother them. So bottom line the question ifs: Is it OK to give them popped popcorn or could it be harmful to them? Thanks!!!!! :/

Corn, popped or not, is heaven for chickens. :)

I would think if it was plain then it would be ok, but the salt and butter I'm sure would not be to good for them on a regular basis, and as far as the unpopped kernels just smash them, then you would have cracked corn for them.

Call me a bad parent but I always sneak in vegetable scraps they don't like inside a bowl of oatmeal which they love! But besides that they love berries, when in season its blueberries, elderberries, cherries, raspberries. But boy they love watermelon also. And certain time in seasons i take them for walks where raspberries are in fruit or to left over wheat from wheat field, it's a lot of work dragging them home though lol.

In the fall our flock will fly up as far as they can into the elderberry bushes to STUFF themselves!

My girls and boys take a while to eat greens and are wary of bananas! But toss raspberries, blackberries or blueberries down and it's on like donkey kong.
