It's hot here too. Heat index is suppose to get to 120. I already put out the ice bottles and jugs in their waters. I have apple sauce in the fridge nice a cold and frozen peas. I'm ready. Couple more hours and they be ready for something besides cold water.
Fridge cold Watermelon. I don't like watermelon but I have really good luck with my Flemish Giant Rabbits not getting overheated in the winter if I give them a slice of super cold watermelon around noonish every hot day. Keeps them cool and hydrated. If I see any chickens "panting" from heat, then I just slice up a half a watermelon and dole it out. Thank goodness it's watermelon season now.
Dry Catfood is the bribe if I want to actually leave the house. I throw out about 4 cups of catfood and then make a beeline for the car.
So today- fresh corn on the cob, watermelon, catfood, cucumber peelings
WOW! I'm on page 50. What a response to the snack query. I can only surmise that there are a whole lot of very spoiled chickens out there, including mine. LOL
Today my almost 8 week olds got an entire wheelbarrow full of chickweed and clover plus a few other weeds from our veggie garden and will be getting watermelon later.
The older hens got watermelon and some breaded cod pieces leftover from last night plus some leftover sweet potato fries.
Yesterday they all got a bunch of dry popcorn. (a flock favorite)
POPCORN! That is an awesome idea! I've been doing the watermelon, canteloupe, tomato ends and pieces. I broke out some frozen wild blackberries that I had. I got mugged over those.
my girls got to dine on papaya and mango skins cut up in its finest, along with some overripe banana's and some steamed carrots and peas. Now they are all hanging out at the front porch. looking for their next treat! LOL
