Yeah, it's not totally universal. Some cacti (as well as most other succulents) just adapt to the full sun by changing their colour. Small cacti in full sun will turn a VERY dark green/brown colour, almost black

Not to be confused with sunburned cacti, though

I remember one of our goats taking a bite out of a cactus without hesitation... it may have ended up happening twice...
