For the record, GMO means gene editing, they don't mean selective breeding. In corn, it is mostly utilitized so they can spray certain herbicides without killing the desirable crop and/or to produce a chemical that is toxic to insects so insects don't eat the growing corn.
Through natural selective breeding corn is already growing so fast and producing yields so high that gene editing really couldn't affect them in a significant way.
It is not harmful to human health though, herbicides specifically target plant metabolic pathways (not animal ones) and the toxins found in Bt corn are only toxic to specific insect species.
