Think about what grows seasonal in your area that is eatable. Also think about what you may be able to put up for only one year, until the next crop comes in.

Same here. I wanted to, but it was never taken care of. We can plant winter crops here, usually year around. I guess I will be eating a lot of greens this winter.
My citrus trees ripen in winter and usually not all at once.

You can usually go to the Agriculture Devision of your state or area on the net and get a list of what you can plant when for as close to a year around garden as possible in your area. It can bee veery interesting what you can grow in winter and mid-summer. Lists of eatable wild flora is really interesting as well.
