I dont know if this belongs here but, My broody hen has 16 eggs and one 2day old chick under her. My question is what temp should i set my light at? I keep turning it on and off so she wont get over heated(meaning the hen), but i dont want anything bad happen. This is my first chick...so can anyone help? Oh and for the last few days it has ben a little muggy at my house...just to let you kjnow if it helps any!!

You shouldn't really need a heat light. If it's going to be cold at night you can face a bit away from her. Mom will keep the chick warm just fine. We've had nights in the 30's and the hen kept all the chicks toasty without a heat lamp.

Well it was about 70 i think....just guessing!! Last night i was sweating a little and the was a thunderstorm. So shuld i turn off the light?

Man, if we controlled reproduction the chicken would be extinct by now.. LOL. Hens have been brooding and hatching chicks for eons. If she can't take care of them they SHOULDN'T survive. Those hens know by instinct how to take care of their young. Watch and enjoy!
