How you doin'(seriously, how are you)?
Of course I am new to the byc and loving it so far.
Guess I should explain how I got here:
A while back, my neighbor got into the chicken bizz a little "putting the cart before the horse-y"--or rather, "putting the chicken before the coop-y"--and after struggling to build a coop while working and gardening and a bunch of other stuff, he decided he just couldn't spare the time to care for them.
So, I volunteered and now I have rescue chickens(For about 2 months)!
It was pretty easy falling in love and I have spent as much time as I could reading about what I can do to help these ladies and gents regain a sense of security and ease.
In that time I think I have learned that one major issue is we have three australorpes roos and only seven hens.
Im thinking that's one reason they came to me missing so many feathers and only one hen is laying. Poor girls!!
So, there is that to deal with.
Then of course, there's the illness. . .
Yep. It's pretty bad, y'all.
I got the fever.
I can't even begin to pick a favorite but the lavender australorps are looking pretty good(along with blue laced red dottes, blue partridge Brahmas, Welsummers, etc., etc.,).
The newer coop should be finished in a few weekends, then I will have a 12x20 pen to use for growing out and I'll need some teens to put in there.
I already bought two incubators and have plans for a brooder just in case (in case what, I am not sure, I guess I thought the easter bunny might hop by or something. Lol).
It's all very happening and I can't wait!
So, that's me. Hope to hear how you and your chicks are doing. I don't know much, so any suggestions or links are always appreciated.
Until then, you'll find me surfing the forums in search of answers.
Cheers to chickens!
