I'm sorry to hear you lost one during the day. Are they inside of fencing? I'm sure if mine weren't inside fencing most if not all of mine would be gone. I've lost some chickens from going over the fence to the woods.

Gorgeous farm yard ducks. Cross bred vigor will probably make you're female an excellent layer. The blue is from the KC. But I'm worried about your ratio.

I agree with this on the blue feathers question. When my KC started out (teenagers?) There were blue tip feathers on the wings. They outgrew them.

Me too, and it makes it so much harder to lose a baby when you were sick yourself.

I leave everyone in the coop/cover run if I am badly ill. They hate that day, but it is the only way I can rest. Thankfully it is very rare. Otherwise I am out checking on them and not healing.

I don't have great coverage for some types of predators once out of the run, so if I can't be around they have an indoor day. I toss out something rare, like a handful of budgie seeds to apologize.
