What the heck? Blue Egg

If she's been laying browner eggs - then she could have just not coated this one and you got the blue suddenly. My EEs egg color has fluctuated since they started laying. Sometimes looks blue sometimes looks green. The green is caused by blue egg with brown coating - so maybe your EE was coating the eggs with too much brown and she finally worked it out? At any rate - you definitely have an EE egg! YEAH! I love my blue and green eggs :)

I believe that all chicken eggs except the blue based ones are white with a colored coating. This can be verified by looking at the inside of an opened egg shell. The blue eggs, on the other hand, are blue on the inside also. The shell is actually blue and doesn't have a colored coating. As for the olive eggers, I've never really paid attention when I've opened one. Guess I'll have to look and see if it's the same olive color on the inside of the shell. If it is then it isn't a color coating, the shell is really olive green.

I had the same thing happen I had my 2 EEs in with my RIRs and was not getting any blue/green eggs. I moved some of the chickens to a new area, and started getting blue/green eggs! I was doubting if they were EEs for a while, but know I know. Congratulations on a new beautiful egg color!
