What the heck is this?

If a vet had removed that, it could have been sent in for biopsy and might have determined exactly what that thing is.

Update: Clark is still a bit subdued - crowing and eating well but activity level is still low key. That being said, color is dramatically improved with the comb pinking up nicely!

As for cutting it off...I have about 30 years in the vet industry, granted small animal but I'm comfortable treating most wounds and have a lot at my disposal. Still, chicken and goats are new territory so I'm still learning. Definitely didn't kill my boy, he's looking better but the underlying cause of the anemia is still to be determined. That growth was a feather cyst I'm pretty certain. Fits all the criteria.

It was so dry and full of feather flecks. I still could have a biopsy as I work at a practice, although we don't see Poultry or large animal...don't know that it's worth it though I will share it with the vets on board, one has chickens.

HI, In the past 4 days I have had two chickens die. When I find them the breathing is labored and they are sitting down with all the feathers poofed up I tried to find a vet to take the one this morning and we have no Chicken vets in the area. I live in Southwest Washington. I have had chickens 3 years and these are the first two to die. One was 3 one was 2

I'm glad he's doing better!

If you need help maybe create a thread to get your problems out there. Go to forums, scroll to Emergencies and Diseason and click post a thread. Hopefully it will get your chickens some help:hugs, I'm afraid I can't help any other than that though
