What the heck is this?

Ok so my hens are almost a year old now and its winter time. Ive accepted the fact that laying everyday is not necessarily possible. Ive gotten 6 some days and 7 others but its usually 8 (we have 8 birds). Two days ago we had 7. Yesterday it was 8...but one was tiny. Like a pullet egg. Today i got this:

Its hard but misshaped and wrinkled like a soft shell. Should i be worried?

If it's a one time thing, then I would not be worried.
Have you opened it up? Can we see?
I'm assuming it's cold where you are (snow in photo) Stress could be the cause, the egg looks to be stitched together or possibly has been in the shell gland a little while.
Do you hens have access to water all the time or is there periods where it may be frozen/not accessible?

If you know which one laid the egg, I would watch her for a few days just to make sure she's eating/drinking well.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure who it belongs to. Garbage was sitting on it but our girl Poopy normally lays this color. The shell was VERY thin when I cracked it open. Usually they are rock hard.

Looks healthy enough. They have access to water and food in and out of the coop. 2 feeders in the run and one small feeder in the coop. One heated dog bowl for water in the coop and 2 heated water sources in the run. Oyster shell is offered but in the coop only.

If you suspect Poopy laid it, I would just watch her over the next few days - see if she's drinking/eating. Sounds like you have the OS, water/food covered just fine.
Sometimes there is a glitch and you get an odd egg here and there. I wouldn't worry unless it becomes consistent.

Are they getting a good source of CA++ egg shells or Oyster shell. I don't trust my birds to eat it separately so I just sprinkle some on top of their food. Small 1/2 hand full for 4 chickens. Save your egg shells and smash them on a cookie sheet "bake" at 350 for 5 mins. Watch them they can burn. Cool, smash even smaller and top their food with them my birds love the "cooked" egg shells.

I've gotten those funky slab eggs too, back in the summer when it was ungodly hot. Probably just a glitch in the system. My golden comet was the culprit.

Are they getting a good source of CA++ egg shells or Oyster shell. I don't trust my birds to eat it separately so I just sprinkle some on top of their food. Small 1/2 hand full for 4 chickens. We do oyster shell. I dont like giving them their own shells because i worry they will start eating their own eggs. Probably unfounded but id rather not risk it.

I try to check their crops every night when i lock them up. I dont get to check everybody because of the way my coop is set up but i try to keep tabs on all of them. Im hoping its like you say "just a glitch". It just raised a red flag for me since we had a pullet size egg yesterday

Yeah those poor egg machines have it rough! I have had reproductive problems with my GC since she started laying. She's going on 3 years old now and still has random problems here and there.
