Okay so I had to take a egg away from the broody hen to hatch it because its shell was practically gone. I had a chick bleed to death a few days ago by getting its shell broken and then squished by the broody hen..

But anyways, I helped it a little because it was making itself bleed because its foot was coming out of the membrane, so I peeled back the shell membrane to leave the clear membrane with the blood vessels showing.. Well that is when I saw this yellowy green COOKED yolk under the membrane. It was like the chick at some point kicked its yolk and then it healed or what not and the yolk that oozed out cooked... So I Peeled the membrane off and it is now in front of the chick. The chick is wrapped up in a damp cloth, with its head sticking out under a heat lamp. To finish sucking in the blood vessels and what ever.

Don't yell at me please because I helped it.... It looked like it was having difficulties, making itself bleed and all.

I don't like helping because I am always afraid I am going to hurt them... But some times they need help :/

I was too worried about helping him/her that I didn't think to get pictures of the weird yolk thing... But here he/she is wrapped up in the damp cloth.

I think he/she will be fine as long as the egg yolk thing is not hanging of its butt and he/she is not bleeding a lot. No one should yell at you, if you thought it was the best thing for your chick than you were right. Please keep me posted.

I had to re-wrap him/her. It wriggled free, but still has the membrane attached. But he/she is doing good so far!

Yes, not as much as the one I just brought up to the house though (already hatched)! So just incase there was still blood in the membrane I tied it off and I cut it off, I was afriad he was going to tear something! The way he was wiggling around crazily.

Oh I just looked at him I thought he was dead! Jeez that scared me. But he is sleeping with his mouth open... IT must be hard work hatching till 3 in the morning.

Is it normal that he isn't really walking yet... His neck still like jelly too, he can't hold it up for very long. It kind of flops

He is Peanut, the 6 1/2 week old EE pullet, deciding(sp?) that she wants to be a mommy. Keeping little one warm

HE/she is supporting its head better. And actually trying to walk instead of flopping around like an upside down turtle!

Oh that is so cute... So know you have two chicks that are hanging on tight? I feel for you, i really do!
