What The??

I've been seeing more and more of those lately. We sell 1200-1300 dozen a week to our organic co-op. The flock's egg mass has gone way up and on average the eggs are on the high side of extra large. I've start reducing the protein and pre-mix in the feed and reduced the feeding times to bring the egg size down. Whenever I do that I start seeing a few eggs like that. Not too many, maybe a half dozen a week. I assume it's from a few birds in the flock not getting enough to eat.

we call them 'rooster eggs'. If you want to see more photos of them- look on line under 'wind egg'. when you crack it you will find egg whites and some membranous garbage, or a meat spot. Something came down the repro tract that was NOT a yolk, and the gland that lays on whites and a shell went to work- so you got a perfect little egg- except for the inside. You can eat it, but it won't be very yummy. No yolk & just a bit of whites.

Cool! Well, not if it happened all of the time.

Wait. Okay. This is a strange thought. You know how there's a bunch of people concerned for high cholesterol that refuse to eat yolks? If someone could figure out what causes this and bred for it (which I'm not sure would even be possible), there would be a market for a novelty like this. Of course, if you had a chicken that only laid yolkless eggs there wouldn't be any chicks. Sorry. My brain does this to me all of the time.

I('ve gotten a couple of these over the past few months. We have kept them sitting in a bowl, more as an eye catcher. I did crack one open and there was no yolk similar to yours.
