What time do chickens lay eggs??

OK!! For the moment until I go get more pine shavings I'm just putting a temporary cardboard box with paper shredding from our shredder in there. Tomorrow I will get the pine shavings and my husband will cut a door in one of those big plastic storage bins!! Thanks for the idea!! Guess I wasn't very creative!! Lol

9:02am, Eastern time.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist! Pretty much what someone else said, anytime there is daylight. Btw, you're very close to me!!

I'm not sure that they have a definite "time" but I've been told that they lay an egg and then the next day they lay an hour later--like every 25 hours but they might skip a day if it gets too late in the day. Mine lay between 8 am and 3 pm. I usually don't get eggs before or after that. I'm still new to this too so don't take my word for anything--this has just been my experience. Good luck!

Mine lay whenever though I believe hens have their own pattern. I'm down to one layer and she lays around 5 or 6 PM. She's old so not every day. And I get my fair share of eggs in the grass and they have nesting boxes.

Well.. next question.. I've been told they make quite a racket when they're laying and that I'll hear them.. is this true with all of you??

That is very individual - some do, some don't. Some will walk around cackling for some time before going into the nest box, then when they come out having laid their egg, they'll sing the egg song loud and long. Others will just go about business and you never know they're doing it. In my experience, the younger hens make the most fuss about it. By their second or third seasons of laying it is "old hat" to them and they just lay their egg and get on with the day.
