What time do chickens lay eggs??

Oops.. never mind.. saw on your profile!! Duh.. had a brain fart for a moment!!

Lol, yep I'm in the Winter Strawberry Capital!

Some of my girls make a racket when they lay and some don't. I guess it just depends on the chicken. I have a broody mommy right now that I put some fertilized eggs under. I really hope some hatch!!

Ours are usually done laying by 1 or 2 pm but occasionally there is a straggler. We didn't let them start free ranging until they had been laying eggs for a few months, so they were accustomed to using the nest boxes. Now even when they are free ranging they will go back into the house to lay. Once in awhile I do find an egg in their fenced-in pen so I would imagine there's a chance we've missed an egg or two in the weeds!!

HEChicken, thank you! Mine are young, just 19 wks old!! SO IF they start laying, as I'm suspecting, btw she did the squat again today, I guess I can expect a lot of cackling!!?? Ooooh boy!! I'm very crazy about ALL animals, so silly and dumb as it may be, if they start all that carrying on, I'll probably start to cry feeling sorry for them!! Lol lol And I can't wait to hear that egg song!! Can't imagine what THAT sounds like!!??

Gingersnap722, Good luck with your eggs hatching!! That's REALLY cool!! I'd love to have more chickens and hatch some babies!! Unfortunately we don't have room though, just a smaller size coop for our two gals!! Plus my husband said, NO more chickens!!

LOL. It goes something like this:

bawk-bawk-bawk-baGAWK!!!! bawk-bawk-bawk-baGAWK!!! (and repeat…..and repeat…..and repeat). Last week I had a hen get under my front porch to lay and started doing that right outside the front door. I ran water to do dishes, loaded the dishwasher, scrubbed down all the kitchen counters, took out the trash. 20-30 minutes after she'd started, she was still going strong (and I was wishing she'd quit

Heck though..my Daisy cackles like THAT every morning when I come outta the house!! It's my morning greeting!! Makes my day.. EVERYDAY!!

I have 7 hens who lay all through the day. If I had to pick a time, I'd say most lay between 8 and noon, but I've gotten eggs as late as 7:00 PM. I live in Molino, FL, so we have longer days now. I have a coop with three nesting boxes, but they prefer to lay in the coop on the hay or on the bale of hay right behind the coop. So, I just gather the eggs wherever they are. I suspect there might be a few elsewhere, but I get more than I can eat, so that's OK. They are fertile, but I don't have any hens that are going broody. I wish one would so I could hatch some chicks. I have 3 Orphingtons, and they are notorious for being broody - nothing!
