What time do chickens lay eggs??

......
Are they all the same breed and if so which breed? The only way I can think of for an entire flock to be so regular is if they ARE all the same breed.

I only have three chickens. Two are identical white leghorns that I received from a free-range farm from when they were finished with them, so they are probably the same age and from the same source. The third one is a smaller (and much smarter!), brown leghorn.

They usually like to lay eggs in a cozy spot, like their brooder. We have a milk crate in their brooder with some hay. They lay in it and it looks like a typical nest. All the chickens take turns in the morning or early afternoon laying their eggs there. I've only had one or two eggs not end up in the brooder and my guess is the birds had to lay at the same time or it was too hot in the brooder. Some kind of reason why it didn't make it. Anyway, they won't be laying eggs in the middle of the lawn if they have an instinctive safe place to lay.

Why is there heat in the brooder? If you are brooding chicks it would be WAY too hot for a hen to sit while laying. If not, there is no reason to heat it is there?

These 2 hens like to lay on the front porch in the kindling box. And usually they lay together!

OK, that is weird. So much for a secluded place with relatively soft nesting material!
