Mine start about 5-5:30 a/m.He starts and stays pretty consistant until about 7-7:30.After that it varies during the day.I'm fortunate in that my neighbors aren't close, but they also enjoy hearing him.He crows in the morning and during the day it seems that he does it to show authority, does it for alertness and when he wants his breakfast and morning treats.I love to hear a rooster crow.I think it is a friendly, pleasant sound.

See, I never miss a crow because I have a baby monitor in a coop that houses 3 roosters in the building, Suede, Rex and Zane, plus it picks up Isaac on the one side and the four D'Anver roosters on the other side. I bet you folks sleep through some of your roosters crowing. I don't have a snowball's chance in you-know-where!

I don't mind it at all, though DH stumbles out of bed and turns down the sound when they start up. I like the monitors because I can tell if someone slides back a barrel bolt on the door of any of the coops in the middle of the night or if there is a fight going on in there.

I thought they started around 5:30 a.m.... until we got a new puppy and I'm taking her out at 1 a.m., 3 a.m., etc... and the roosters are crowing at 1 a.m., 3 a.m., etc!

I don't know if they hear me go out or what. The coops are far enough away we don't usually hear in the mornings unless the windows are open.

I keep my pure Ixworths at home instead of on the croft so I can keep an eye on them because of the Raven attacks.
The most sheltered part of the garden is below my bedroom window so that's where the coop is.

They crow at 4am. I thought with the dark mornings they would crow later but no, they just get up, have a crowing contest then go back to bed for 4 hours.
