Oh, yeah no the girls all go into their coop at night(they move in on their own at dusk) and we do a headcount close the door(they have a ramp and a little chicken door) Ya, know just to be an enabler, you don't need a pond for ducks, i don't have one and i have 3 different breeds. I use kiddy pools and troughs for water sources.

IMO ducks are easily 10X messier then chickens. I tried keeping ducks once, but it wasn't for me. Now if I had a big natural pond that wouldn't require the cleanings a smaller tub type water source would, I would certainly try keeping ducks again. They are fun and cute, but just so much higher maintenance!

Some chicken breeds are better at foraging than others. If you want good foragers that lay lots of eggs and can fly to get away from predators, I would suggest Brown Leghorns.

And if you want some ducks, you just need to get a little kids' wading pool. Ducks don't have to have a pond. But ducks can be messy.
Love leghorns, I keep Game Bantams and some barnyard mutts as well as the rescue girls. I barely need to feed the game breeds they only eat small amounts I think they even prefer foraging!

They are not for everyone that said they have pluses and minus just like chickens do, i started with ducks, they still hold the majority share here.

Games are good, but they will not lay eggs like the Leghorns will.

They are suppose to be noisy during mating season, but I only hatched mine this spring so they weren't of noisy age then. They are getting pretty big now so I reckon next spring they will share their voices, which I won't mind. I love the way peafowl sound myself.
