I voted for cochins and D'Uccles!
My two cochins are super sweets, and absolutely adorable. Especially my rooster. He just loves to cuddle and sit on my lap.
I just got two D'Uccles as well. They are ridiculously cute, and very curious. They like to watch everything I do. They also really love each other. They follow each other around, share everything, and cuddle with their heads on each other's backs.

I've noticed my nails growing slightly... But it will still be a few more months!

I've been doing some research about seramas and decided they won't be the best chicken to hatch in a small group of 2-3 eggs.
Some of them have some kind of gene where their legs are too short to hatch and they end up dying- I don't really want to be stressed about that. A few of my silkies (my silkies aren't bantams) are quite bossy and I don't think it will be fair of the tiny seramas. Also, the UK is very cold and I read that seramas are delicate. So I don't think they are the best chickens to hatch in a small group.
I've also checked Ebay and eggs are only being sold in groups of 6+ which I can't do

I've been reading about d'uccles and I think they will be a good match for my polish. I have 1 polish whos definitely a rooster and 1 probable rooster, leaving 1 little polish all alone when I have to rehome the roos. I read that d'uccles are cold hardy (very important in UK).
They are small, beautiful, easy to sex young.
I vhecked ebay gor these and you can get as many eggs as you want... From 2-12
They are small, but similar size to my polish who are fine in the flock. I've read on BYC and Google that d'uccles are very friendly and a bit crazy... (Like me!)

I could put 1-2 of Kiwi X Pippin eggs if I can. I'll be curious to see what comes out. I've hatched silkies before and it's quite easy. And I know how to integrate silkies. Silkies are friendly, tame and calm. The worst that can happen is that they aren't fertile, I'll still have the d'uccle eggs to rely on.. but Pippin's eggs that I've been cracking recently have bullseyes (fertile).

Yesterday, I made a deal where if I can grow my nails (I'm a nail biter), I can hatch 3 more eggs! In a few months of not biting they'll be long enough, so I'm keeping my mind off biting by thinking what breeds I can hatch. l can't narrow it down, there are so many breeds I want!!!
  • Seramas (my dream chicken, but hard to find)
  • eggs from my own silkies, Kiwi and Pippin (not guaranteed fertility, I can get them free though)
  • Wyandottes (not exactly small, but really pretty)
  • Sebright (small, pretty, like small wyandottes)
  • D'uccle (small, cute)
There are a bunch of others I've always wanted to have too. Any suggestions on birds that fit this criteria?
  • Go well with silkie and polish flock
  • Small
  • Friendly
  • Must be chicken
  • easy to hatch and brood
Tell me what you think I should choose and I'll add to the poll.
I presume that they would be bantam Wyandottes? Have you looked at bantam Orpingtons? Booted bantams/Sablepoots are cute as well, I have no experience with any of them. Oh.. all most forgot bantam Faverolles!

I didn't know you could get bantam wyandottes! I'll look into it. Orps are nice... But they're quite simple looking and I prefer chickens that stand out a bit. I've seen faverolles before and they are very cute- I'll look into it a bit more!
