Why didn't he cut it up ? I've never ate mountain lion before...but all of my family that hunts them , and friends I know eat the meat .
I'm all about hunting...as long as I eat it . I'm glad to hear your state knows what it's like for ranchers to lose cattle , and home owners to lose other livestock etc. Pass your senators over here.....we have too many out of staters trying to protect animals that were not even native here to begin with !

Sorry....I ranted again....You should seriously get some target practice in . I know you have gophers down there...or at least the target practice signs you can buy at wal-mart . Knowing how to use a gun accurately , and having to use it are the best knowledge to have when you live out in the country . You don't have to use a gun ....just know how to kill something when it's needed .

And how many years will that take ? Been there done that ...even when evidence was shown about calves eaten....still waiting on my check from the government for my loss . The only way to get FWP or DNR to investigate....would be too have at least 20 people call in...then they have to investigate , scope out the area , do thier research , come up with a plan , Then they might do something ...unless a child was attacked ( happened here ) it still takes them weeks if not months .

We have them here as well , but told they don't exist here . We have tracks out back from them and neighbors have even saw them .

So what to do would be great to know.
As far as letting the DNR move them , they can't move something they swear does not exist.
So i thought about it , can't get into trouble shooting something that don't exist either i would say.

I would keep it on the down low though.

You're getting a lot of advice here, but you asked for it. I'll throw mine in.

You know you have mountain lions in the area. Do you and your family know what to do if you encounter one or are attacked? With a bear you play dead. With a cat you fight back. Research the techniques for different situations and be prepared. It could be lifesaving knowledge.

Do your research and find out what is legal. I advise asking your county extension agent. They will know the legalities and will probably have good contacts for you.

I am normally a believer in handling my own problems. Not in this case. As someone said, a wounded mountain lion is worse than one not wounded. One not wounded is dangerous enough. I grew up hunting small game. I spent my time in the army in the early 70's. I feel I can handle a gun. I do not feel experienced enough to purposely take on a mountain lion. I recommend getting profesional help.

Good luck.

OH MY GOD!!!!! I just read the other posts about dogs and raccoons but MOUNTAIN LIONS!!!

I live in NJ (Not area with bears ) but in town by the ocean. The only predators locally would be dogs or raccoon. I get freaked out by the thought of bears, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, alligators -you get the picture.
Using guns around here is out of the question, rules and laws about everything - garbage, lawn height-you name it. Having a gun is for hunters who go someplace else to hunt or for protection against people breaking into your house.
If I lived where any of the above came by I would get a gun, learn to use it and shoot them. I am surprised that someone wouldn't have a gun with those critters around!!

I'd call wildlife officers and arrange with them how best to cope. Here, I'd end up in jail for harming an eastern cougar, they're just making a comeback.

Ahem- not to mention I would never risk my life by tangling with a mountain lion.
