What to do about persistent egg-eating among the flock?

I am not sure who's doing it, though I have my suspicions, but one or more of my flock has taken to breaking and eating their own or other's eggs. We used to get 7-8 eggs a day from our 8 birds; now we only get 3 to 5, and often find a broken shell or two in the nests. I've seen the hens go crazy over the scent of a yolk: they are absolutely crazy to eat eggs. I'm suprised actually that they don't eat ALL the eggs they lay, now that they have the taste.

What can I do about this? Has anyone had this problem before?

Any way to start checking for eggs quicker & getting them out of there as soon as possible? Try replacing with ceramic eggs... when chickens peck these, they won't get rewarded with anything but (LOL) a sore beak. Maybe once they learn there's nothing in it for 'em, they'll give up the behavior. Make sure, sure they are getting enough calcium. I scramble 3-4 eggs along with the crushed egg shell each week & feed back to my girls. They absolutely love 'em & don't connect them to the same things they lay in the boxes... haven't had egg-eating problem yet.
