Hi everyone,

Im an avid lurker and my Cochin girls have gotten into some burdock bushes. How can I get these out, one has them embedded pretty bad.

Thanks for the help,

Please excuse my ignorance, but what are burdocks? If it's like thorny type things, I would think they would need to be removed with tweezers, cleaned out with saline water and some antibiotic cream without pain reliever applied.
If I'm way off base-sorry.

I'm sorry I can't help you on how to get them off as I have never had that happen, but to answer the question, "what is Burdock", it is a thistle with very sticky heads. It is nature's version of Velcro.

I have been thinking that I want some Cochins. Maybe you just changed my mind. My birds free range all day and I can only imagine the mess they could into in my pasture.

Hope you figure out how to clean them up.

Burdock is dry now and would likely stick to a piece of wool cloth rather than to a feather. My dog does it often and I just wipe down with dry terry cloth. IF really bad and it is not all coming off, I would use a soft brush to get the thistles to stick to the cloth wrapped around the brush.

Hand picking is difficult, better to try to get them to stick to a wool sock or something like that.
