I just lost a turkey and I was sad. My sweet husband told me to go get "two to four of the birds" I'd been considering.

Even though the day before he had jokingly muttered about divorce if I brought home any more birds.

where are you in north cali? i am in sacramento area. shoot, my husband and I decided on 4-5 all laying already when we get them. As of this morning we have 24!! Mostly chicks that I have had to have. But we have decided to that 14 is the number for our permanent flock, and as they get bigger I will need to make some decisions. But for now, I am happy, they are happy and I have a new hobby-chicken breeder!!

My husband built a chicken house and yard for 4 chickens

2 years later I have 8 hens, 3 roosters, 9 twelve week old chicks, 6 three week old chicks, and three week old chicks

Maybe your husband has a point

I'm in the process of downsizing to a manageable amount for the space that I have. Ofcourse I have plans for a BIGGER chicken barn in the future . . hehe!

Just tell him that you don't know how many will be roosters so you had to get a couple extras to be safe. He will warm up to them eventually. We started out with 6 and went to 50 QUICK. Hubby just let me have two ducks and he swore I would never get any hahaha. Fuzzy butts warm his heart

I lost one...then went to the feed store and got 5 more!! We recently put them out in the run and I asked him what he thought...yep, he likes them.

I'm sure your DH will warm up once he sees how much fun you and your daughter are having with them. . . plus some extra lov'in goes a long way!

Tell Dh that you need some extras incase the sexers messed up and you end up with some roos

Oh my - - - is that your Dh screaming or crying in the background ? ? ?

My Dh told me how many would fit in the coop and I promptly ignored him and got what I wanted.
Then, he built the coop bigger for me.

I just got rid of 2 that I didn't like their personalities as well as the others. One of my shes turned out to be a he - - - so I just got rid of him. In the meantime, I found 3 new breeds that I wanted to try and got two of each.

So, I got rid of 3 and got 6 new ones. It is chicken math. I LOVE IT.

Seriously, tell Dh you plan on keeping the 5 until the get bigger and if it still bothers him you will keep your fav's and sell the other two.
It is better to a few extras incase of sexing errors, personality faults or deaths. It is easier to get rid of extras than to add to your flock later.

I sold my hens in 24 hours on craigslist for $10 each. The extra girls are EASY to get rid of.

Do tell... what is your husband's hobby? Motorcycles? Fishing? Hunting? Softball? Golf? Whatever it is that he does I guarantee it is stinkier, costlier and more time consuming than chickens will ever be. And I will bet my favorite hen's life that it has never for a moment crossed his mind to ask your permission!

Is he seriously annoyed over two chicks? Good God, in this life this is one man who plans to be annoyed a LOT! Sucks to be him.

You know, there was a time I used to think up ways to bring new birds home without my husband getting upset. They worked to, but then I decided, hey I'm a grown woman, buy all my feed and do all the work. Now I just do as I darn well please and if he don't like it tuff luck. I just plain out don't care what he thinks. This is my hobby and I enjoy it way to much for 1 person to tell me what I can and can not have. I don't tell him how many "man toys" he can have either. We get along pretty well with this arrangement.
Just keep them and over time he will get over it. If not then he has a real problem.
