We have never personally had trouble, but I think the remote controlled shock collars sounds like a great idea. just don't let her know you had anything to do with it. Let her think it was the all-powerful chickens.
If she just can't take it, I would try to re home a good dog like her before resorting to other alternatives (spca, etc).
