what to do on day 18 (eggs lay flat or in cartons?) *Eggtopsy* *Graphic*

Its harder to see with all the chicks bouncing around but I'm pretty sure I have 10 eggs that still need to hatch all but 2 of them are pipped with one or 2 that looks like they are trying to zip. I mite have had a bit of a high humidity at 75% because although they did not have much trouble hatching the are a bit sticky and not as fluffy as they should be. egg junk and what not. I think I will give them a warm wipe down before I put them in the brooder. All in all I think it is turning out to be a great hatch and even if at the end its not perfect I'm happy with it cause none of the chicks seem to have any visible problems.

What is your humidity running? I take mine out periodically during the hatch. I am NOT one of the wait until the end hatchers. For one, I believe they fluff up better under the brooder light than in a humid hot box, For 2, they CAN go 3 days w/out food, but I don't believe in making them wait that long, and 3 I had a chick end up with a chipped beak because I had 7 or 8 of them running around playing king of the hill on my thermometer and other eggs and he apparently got pushed off and I believe hit his beak on the thermometer as that was where the blood was. He screamed!! I felt so bad. And though it was probably a one in a million, freak accident, I do believe they are safer out when there's many hatched. Also I use a LG and when they stand up and stretch their head comes to the heating element. My turken roo had a spot on his head I swear was from the heating element. He was standing on the thermometer (the thicker digital ones) and stretching and I think it burned him. I coud be crazy, but I don't think I am....lol

But I keep my humidity at 75% so that opening the bator is a slim risk as my humidity doesn't drop below 70% and not usually that much, plus (at least in summer/fall weather) it comes right back up easily.

my humidity is high right now cause I have yet to open the bator 82%. I was also worried about the element. there are just so many in there.I have the brooder all set up and ready to go I am going to give them a little bit longer then I will take the ones that have been in for a wile out.

Someone looks happy! lol
That's my little boy he couldn't wait to put them in the brooder he loves watching them run around. Every time one hatched he would run to his dad and say " DAD YOUR NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS" then he would run back to the bator and say "GOOD JOB BABY"
