what to do when it going to be 100 out

Mine also hate the mist! They squawk and run from it any time I try to cool off their area. I love the Water bottle idea! We have been putting out a pie tin filled with water and ice cubes but they get to drink from it no longer than 5 minutes before my little queen BR comes pushing the other chickens out of the way and steps on the edge of the pan tipping the water out. I'll have to try the bottle! our heat here in SoCal has been in the 95-105 range and so far my girls have been doing ok, except for my Cochin, she never ceases to pant, poor thing with her fluffy winter pants!

I've seen recommendations to give electrolytes for heat stress, but I've also seen that it's not good to give too much electrolytes either. How often can you give them when it stays hot day after day?

I put their coop in the shadiest part of the yard and make sure they have plenty of watter...that's it. Oh, and I put avia charge in their water.

We give watermelon,we give cold yogurt and we put ice in there water. I also spray down the run, the yard etc so it's cool for them to lay on. They lay all day under my lilac hedges that are full and huge, the dirt is cool and there out of the sun. A fternoons we give grapes, more ice water and water things down again before giving them other cool snacks . My chickens are loved spoiled and pampered .yesterday I misted them . And it's only in the 80' s here lol

I use those mister sprayers --it cools the pen down by at least10-20 degrees. I turn it on like 3 pm and turn it off after they go to roost. Put frozen ice jugs in coop. Mine free range so alot of water changing during the day too!

Fans, ice water in all the watering dishes, I wet the ground down where they like to lay down, cold watermellon, and i actually hose my some of them down! They actaully don't mind and it helps them from panting so much! Oh and I have 5 broodies now, I worry about them. They have a fan infront of their nesting boxes and I frezze water bottles and put them in the nest with them (along the side of them).
Then you may think I'm crazy but I have a large dog crate in my room and I bring my 2 SQ Polishes in when it's over 95. I have too much invested in them for them to die of heat stroke! Plus they have lived in Washington and not used to this California heat!
