What to do with packing peanuts???

Put an add on Craigslist under farm & garden: "straight run chicks, $2 each"

The problem with that is that they are sexed roosters that the hatchery can not sell. There freebees more or less so the hatchery doesn't have to deal with them.

I bring them to the local feed store and give them to the store to sell or give away. It's a win win....I don't have to deal with trying to sell them and I get rid of them while the feed store has chicks that he can give away if he wants at no cost to him. I do it all the time with roosters and birds I just don't want or need. He usually make a little money on them (not much) and gets to have different stuff in his store for people to look at. I generally go there early on Saturday morning with the birds I don't want and by the end of the day they are usually gone.

Also I never bring him sick or unhealthy looking birds. You do that just one time and your done with that store.

Good luck,
Chris

I put an ad on craigslist and had received several emails full of profanities and threats...apparently people around my area are confused about all of this! They think I am participating in some sort of animal cruelty...anyway, I just decided not to do the chicks for warmth, so hopefully my 8 chicks will all make it fine without them! Im a little nervous!

Sorry, OP, that the people acted that way. Here extra males sell or are given away easily with no added judgement, that is because folks know they have one purpose, to be eaten.

This is very deceptive and wrong, in my humble opinion. Because the packing peanuts are sexed male chicks, not strait run. Advertise them for what they are: extra male chicks, so nobody gets duped into buying falsely.

Are they silkie chicks?

Because from my understanding, silkies are always sold as straight run.. Or am I wrong? If the packing peanuts are silkies, you COULD get females.

Sorry but this struck me as being very dishonest. Straight run means they haven't been sexed and theoretically you would end up with approximately half and half male/female ratio. In this case these chicks have been sexed and are known to be male, so advertizing them as straight run wouldn't be honest.

And, from the buyer's point of view, I would frankly be VERY upset if I went to buy "straight run" chicks from someone and ended up with all roos. I live by the principle "do unto others as you would have them do" and if I would be upset about someone doing this to me, then I wouldn't, couldn't and shouldn't do it to someone else.
