What to do with Roosters

Craigslist is a good place to sell roosters. I've sold some very easily through CL. However, you have to exercise caution. I don't let people come to our farm. Instead, I meet them in a public place - usually in the parking lot of a nearby discount store. I tell them that it's for biosecurity reasons - and that's true to a certain extent. However, the main reason is that I don't want strangers on our farm. Some friends had CL folks come back and steal chickens when they weren't home. And there are other horror stories of people who troll CL for purposes other than buying what people are selling.

I don't mind eating my roosters. The only problem is actually doing the butchering. I know I can't do it and I'm not sure if my husband would be willing to. (He's never done anything like it in the first place.) What I was saying was, my dad use to trap and maybe he'd do it......but then again, we've had chickens before, and ducks, and there were times that they needed to be butchered, and Dad was too tender hearted to do it. He always just gave them away instead, even though he'd talk like he could butcher anything.

Ok then I can sympathize with not being able to do the deed yourself. I can but I for sure don't enjoy it. Sometimes though it's a responsible part of animal husbandry. I'd say put them on Craigslist, even free, then don't ask questions.

I'm too hard headed to do that though. I figure if I poured all that care and food into them, if anyone eats them, it will be me! I have one right now though, that will be an exception. The poor guy isn't good for anything but a meal and I just love him to pieces. He was a lone hatch that I kept inside with me in the fall till he was big enough to put with some others that are a little older. He still thinks I'm his mom. That one, once it gets so I have to get rid of him, will be on Craigslist. So as I say, I can sympathize.
