hi so i have a skunk getting in my coop i know its a skunk cuz last night it was walking up to the coop and we saw it but im putting a live trap out but i dont know if i should shoot it or relocate it i really want to relocate it but my brother is the one that will be handling it and he does not want it in the tail gate of his truck cuz of the smell so what she we do with it

you should kill it. relocating it is illegal in most places and irresponsible everywhere

missouri dept of conservation website says it best

"After you trap a damage-causing animal, you must dispose of it properly. Although relocation may seem like a good idea, we do not recommend it. Moving an animal can spread disease. Also, a strange animal coming into an established local population of the same species (a strange, disoriented squirrel coming into an established community of squirrels, for example) can upset the local group’s social order and possibly its health. Further, a relocated animal does not know where to find food or other resources and may likely starve to death. Finally, moving the animal might simply create a problem for someone else at the new location. You should also know that most federal, state, and local agencies prohibit the release of wildlife on lands they own or manage (including Department properties). For these reasons, we recommend killing the animal."

In most places it is illegal to relocate skunks, fox, opossums, raccoons, etc.

I shoot them in the trap and bury them as quickly as possible. A solution of bleach and water will help get rid of the smell.

There are lots of ideas, here - most are cheap to try ... especially calling Animal Control and asking the pros to come out and get it for you!

I especially like the sensor-activated sprinklers. I never knew such a thing existed! I'll be on the lookout, now, though!

I guess it depends on the skunk and the person lol! But if OP does decide to shoot may I reccomend goggles and really, really keep your mouth closed...the distance on a skunk is amazeballs.:)
lol it will probably spray when approached anyways. I kinda like the smell lol as long as its not on me

If the shot is placed correctly, the skunk will not spray. What will happen is that all of the sphincter muscles will relax with death allowing the scent glands to discharge but it will not be as a spray.
