What to do with snakes?

To prevent snakes sneaking in, you could change the litter on the floor for sand. That would cut down on hiding places. (Sand is heavy, but it doesn't have to be shoveled out - you can rake it clean.)

I do "bed checks" on my broodies twice a day, to make sure nobody is hiding underneath them. Shine the light around inside the coop before you lock up at night!

Yeah, and not only that, but contrary to popular belief they can bite underwater. I was fishing one day as a teenager and this snake was swimming by under the water. I made a cast and brought my little green bass buster in front of it, and that snake opened his mouth and sucked it in. Biggest fight I ever had on a fishing pole!

In years past we relocated snakes up to 3 miles away and some found their way back! We have all kinds of snakes on our property and for egg eaters we take them into town water treatment/dump near my husbands job, 45 miles south. We transport in a pillow case. Our broody, chick and silkie coops are all snake proof.
