This is true. We have ordered chicks and had seven hatched on our property. We currently have 5 roosters. There are some breeds they can sex at hatching but I don't think it applies to Barred Rocks.

Barred Rocks females and males are distinguishable at hatch! It's the head spot. Females have smaller, more defined head spots. Males have larger, less defined spots. And males are lighter in color. Yay!!!
