I have a female Crested duck that hisses and all of her feathers stand on end when I gather eggs. Today when I went to get the eggs she did the same but this time I got smacked by a wing and then she just stared at me when I picked up the eggs. I noticed that one was cracked (these were just layed today) so I went and opened it and it had a white spot in the yolk.
Is it fertilized? Or is she broody? If they are fertile do I put them back or just wait until next time? We do have a drake that is almost 21 weeks. Any help would be great I am new at this.

Sounds like she is broody.

Do you want to raise more ducklings? If not, just keep removing the eggs, or place some wooden ones in the nest and let her sit those.

Our Crested duck lost the first of her eggs and now has layed 12 more. Some of the eggs have some dark areas on the outside (without candling them). Are they ok.? There isn't any foul oder just a duck pen smell. Do we need to be concerned about anything?

I'd keep an eye on them they may be going bad. depending on how far along the eggs are candling may give you an idea whats going on. and

Thanks! We did candle them one of the dark ones is watery but the other one is looks like something is there. Should I take the one out that is watery looking or let her do it?

see if she does, if not then in a couple days have a look again and if it still looks watery go ahead and take it, sometimes they remove them sometimes they don't and you don't want to risk an explosion if you have ducklings growing. Keep us updated on progress and hatch day.

Well she has left the nest today. Does that mean they are all not any good? The temps here are in the 90's.

She is back on her nest. I do have a question. The drake is only 61/2 months old, is he to young to fertilize the eggs?
