I have two bachelor boys living in my barn. I've been feeding them the same food I feed my hens - purina layena and scratch. Is there something better to feed roosters? I will be switching some chicks in a couple week to flock raiser. Would that be better?

The flock raiser would be preferable in that it doesn't have the amount of calcium in it that the layer does.
Having said that, my roo eats the layer feed just fine. Yes, the extra calcium can settle in his joints and kidneys, but it would take a very long time for it to become a problem and I just can't see my rooster living to be 10 or 12 years old.

My roo has been eating layer mesh for about a year. He does fine one it. But like what has been said flock raiser would prolly be better

I feed mine Dumore 15% grower/finisher feed in the bachelor pad, coz it comes in pellets and the Purina Flock Raiser does not.
