What's the best feed to give for a mixed flock? Their ages range from 15 weeks - 24 weeks. The oldest just started laying as of today (8/2). I've read that giving layer pellets or crumbles to those not ready can eventually develop kidney issues?! Any suggestions should be appreciated! Thanks!!!

I like Purina Flock Raiser. It's 20% protein. (I give oyster shells on the side, and those that need that, eat it.)
I have not seen such eager eaters w other types of feed. They all like it and don't waste it. If any gets spilled, they carefully puck it up off the ground. It's in crumbles form.
My mixed flock includes laying hens and young pullets, and I plan to keep on using this feed even when they are all laying....

I also feed Flock Raiser, but it's most important to buy what's available at your local feed stores that's fresh! If some other quality product has good mill dates, get that. Mary
X2 on checking dates! For Purina, the date is on the white ribbon strip. I like it less than 6 weeks old. Feed gets funky, even moldy...It doesn't last indefinitely. Our stores often have some that are older mixed in w newer. For Purina, the year is written first as a single digit. 7 for 2017. Then the month and day. Other manufacturers do it differently. If it's a code you can't decipher, call the # on the bag and ask!

Thanks for that info. Never thought to check the dates. I will start doing that now.
