My cornish cross just get daylight, no added light. So they eat and play during the day and sleep at night. I have a 3" high roost for them to jump up on and play about.
Feed is regular meat bird feed (24% I think) and they get veggie scraps.
I use a Momma Heating Pad for heat, so no need to worry about heat lamp dangers. They usually start sleeping on top of it at 2-3 weeks old. Fully feathered out by 5 weeks.
I do let them grow to about 12 weeks to get really big and tasty before they go to freezer camp.
