what kind of feed do I feed my meat birds? My local feedstore is very limited so my only other option is the TSC store thats about an hour away from me. Which food do i buy them? and when they get a lil older can I feed them corn? Im new to all of this and any help is greatly appreciated!

A high protien food is best, they grow faster then. And you can process them sooner and have to buy even more feed. I wouldn't feed corn it would just be a waste of money and doesn't really contain any extra protien and it will just make your meaties hot and uncomfortable

My local mill only sells 3 chicken "feeds" - 20% grower, 16% layer, and scratch. However, with that said, I love them - MUCH cheaper than bagged TSC feed, and my chickens do very, very well on the feed - the meaties got the grower, the layers get the layer, and I ended up with 5-6lb meaties after 7 weeks, and my layers lay good eggs and are quite healthy. Pretty much no selection there, but they have all I need.

Aim for a 20% or a bit higher feed, if you can get it.

Good advice!

We have a simple feeding program for the Commercial Broilers we feed for 4H and for the freezer. We provide 2# per bird of Turkey Starter then feed a meat Bird feed for the remainder of the feeding period. Currently we are using Fast Grow from Hubbard Feeds. We do not feed corn at the end as we prefer not to have fatty carcasses.
