What to fill my duck run with? And progress pics

Pics
Yes I'm really excited about collecting rain water. My town charges a sewer fee according to how much water we use so we are currently paying a sewer fee on all our duck water. Not cool.
Ohhhhhh..... you have me interested now! Ours does too. We pay a minimum of $53 even if we use 0 gallons of water and don't put any trash out. And in the area that I live in, the other towns pay on average $20 for that same service. Filling the duck pull up regularly can get expensive.

I'll post pics when we get it all set up with the down spouts. I'm hoping it will save me $$ and allow me to clean their pool more often.

So I would like to use some leaves to mix with my shavings to make the shavings go farther when I get ready to start building up my deep litter. So I'm guessing I need to scatter them out and wait for them to dry before I put them in the run?

Best they are mostly dry. Chickens will scratch and scatter them on their own but ducks? I'm not sure how much they 'scratch and scatter' with those webbies? Leaves are one of the BEST materials for deep litter IMO. :D

Any tips for the best way to dry them out faster. . Seems like it's always damp this time of year. I wondered about raking a bunch up on a tarp. I'm probably going to be needing them in a week or two if I can cut down on the amount of shavings I have to buy to start off with that would be nice.
