What took my chickens?

Foxes can fit thru the openings in a cattle fence or climb over one (same size as a house cat)
My advise is up your security by building a covered run with an anti dig apron around the bottom to protect your flock from predators (a game camera would help to identify the guilty culprit )I'm very sorry for your loss and wish you the best!

Oh my, that is just terrible, I am sorry.

We lost 8 of our girls overnight about two weeks ago. Right out of the closed chicken coop. Not a chicken to be found. However, there were piles of feathers in various places. My first thought when I first saw them was that it looked like the chickens were moulting. I am still devastated. 😞 I am almost sure it was the fox mother and two kits that are nearby.

But no feathers or any other sign at all is very odd.
Is there any chance at all they could have gotten out and wandered away? Where one goes, they do all seem to follow. We have found all of ours in the forest behind our house before we fixed the fence.

Wow, sorry for your loss! I agree with the others it's time for a trail cam. This is strange thing to have happen. Welcome to BYC and thanks for joining us.

Last year a member here lost 30 + chickens before she finally caught a pair of foxes in the act. Until then suspected her neighbors of stealing them. Her rooster somehow managed to escape the last incident but fell dead in spite of having no injuries.

I think a fox would make a mess I would say they were stolen I know it's kind of weird, for that many chickens to all disappear with no feathers blood or trace of a dead body left that's really weird.

Foxes make a mess with your chickens, Is there anybody who would have stole them?
If an owner leaves their chickens out without checking on them a fox can plan an attack .

Mine act like I'm trying to kill them when I do health exams in a contained run. If I don't hem them up in a corner I can't catch them. I hate having to dip them or put medicine on them.I can't imagine how hard it would be to catch 15 of them one by one & putting them in cages or bags out in the open( with the owner home). 15 average chickens weigh about 75-80 lbs
