What tradition

It is! Most of us in the family work in healthcare so we usually end up working on the major holidays. Shrimp cooks up fast, easy cleanup and you got the energy to go back to work afterward!

DH was career Navy (retired in 1990) so we discovered early on that traditions and holidays are whatever and whenever you declare them to be. That was only reinforced when my kids were both rebellious teens (they are now in their thirties!).

Our TG dinner will be a roast chicken, oyster dressing (the only part we ever cared about anyway) and the remains of a Key Lime cheesecake with white chocolate whipped cream that I made Monday. Our best Thanksgivings were when we used to go cook (and share) Thanksgiving dinner for a homeless shelter.

Christmas is a couple of decorations and a month of wonderful Christmas music that I have collected on CDs over the years.

Holidays are whatever you enjoy the most.

Parade and Dog Show for me too. I will be at my Mothers.
Look for her dog to win next year. He is doing really well at the shows.

It's just a great tradition... been going on since my dad was a kid with his parents. My mom loves dogs, so she started the tradition of the dog show.

Good luck to her!

It's really different this year after all these years, since I'm not going to be the cook...I'm going to be the guest. It feels so odd yet it's kind of a nice break since I haven't been quite up to par lately. I do really love cooking for our family get togethers and miss it this year. Unless they're going to spring a surprise tiara out for me, I forecast unusually heavy dishwashing duties after the dinners.

We have the usual traditional foods, but my brother in Law puts mashed potatoes in his stuffing. In our family if you are pregnant you don't need to wash or dry the dishes. Everyone else get busy and we clean up in record time!!

I love seeing all the different traditions along with new things happening this year. I too agree Holidays are what you make them so always make them the best. I was talking with a co-worker today about traditions & holidays, I totally surprised him how I feel about Christmas and what it meant. We both agreed and then he said but what presents do you like under the tree and I told him it's the traditions that I always must have under my tree. There is always to be a stick of salami, the World Almanac and a Calendar for the following year, it's what I always want and nothing else.

This is really fun!

My little family unit usually goes camping for Thanksgiving. Since my Mom died, we haven't so that I can stay home and cook for my Dad since he no longer has anyone to do it for him. I miss our little family tradition, but I think it will come back to me sooner than I would like.
