What type of container do you use to call your chicks?

I had four RIRs that would come when I clapped my hands three times, about 1/2 second between claps. I started training them by clapping as I was introducing them to a treat. They would be all the way over in the neighbors yard, scratching his pretty lawn

and I would clap and they would come running. Not all of the heard me, but the ones that did got the other's attention. That made me feel really good to have them trained. I just hope I can train this 'batch' of chickens. It made life a whole lot easier when they end up outside the yard somewhere they shouldn't be.

Dogs broke into my run one day while I was at work and ate my babies. They weren't even a year old yet, live and learn. I've since turned the chicken area into Fort Knox and BOOM, chicken math strikes again. Started out with only wanting four and ended up getting SIX!

Loving every minute of it!

Enjoy your training sessions!

Funny what sounds animals associate with being handed food. My two indoor rabbits know the sound of the refrigerator door opening. As soon as the seal barely cracks, they appear out of nowhere. It's like they teleport themselves. The chickens we simply call, "chick-chick-chick" and they come running.

I just go outside and hollar "Treat Time" and they all come running through the yard like maniacs. I started this when they were babies and Each time I gave them a treat I said this , they catch on very quickly. It also comes in handy when once in a while one goes missing out of my sight (they free range ) they come runnin as fast as can be... LOL!

Mine come running when I say "c'mon puppies"
To get them to respond I started just saying that and tossing a little bit of steel cut oats on the floor, they eventually connected my saying that to the sudden appearance of treats. My cochin is usually the first to respond, but she loves her treats.

All mine have to do is See me at the door and they run as fast as they can to me, I don't ever need to call them

I have 12 chicks that are between 5-7 weeks old. Are they still young enough to train like this since I didn't start from day one? A few of them eat out of our hands. My little girl (11) loves when they eat out of her hand. We are new to this as well. My daddy got in interested and now it seems we never can talk without one of us talking "chicken" talk.

They're never to old to start, unless they're dead of course. And people who clicker train chickens to better their skills use older birds.

sure they are never to old when they know "you have food" My word is "treat time" just pick a word or words and keep saying it everytime you feed them, they'll get it in no time. You will laugh when they come running its hysterical.

Mine are 5 all around 5 weeks too.

The running IS hysterical! I think they're getting used to the coffee can.

Last night I said Heeeeere chichchickchickCHIIIIICK! and shook the can and all but 4 came running. (I have 16) The other four acted as if I didn't exist, they were too busy scratching in the oak leaves. Up until yesterday only about 5 or so would come running, so I'm making progress. I am hoping the rest follow the flock mentality eventually, because I'm trying to use this to get them in at night, lol.
