About 2 weeks or so from finishing coop and run, was wondering what type of fan to put in coop on hot days. I know they have those small, (6 inch x 6 inch electonic cabinet fans), and I was also wondering about using the smallest ceiling fan I could find and keep it on low, Maybe install some hardware cloth under the fan so the chicks don't have any collisions with the fan blades. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks

It depends upon your climate and the size of your coop. A small fan and plenty of ventilation may be fine in an area with a mild climate. If you have a large coop with a high ceiling, a small ceiling fan may do just fine (provided precautions are taken to which you already alluded). Our summers are very hot - several months of temps from 95 - 100+. We use two large box fans in the front of the 8 x 12 coop (one on each side). They are placed behind a wall of hardware cloth for safety. Four large windows (screened with hardware cloth) remain open allowing the air to circulate. The double doors remain open as well, essentially creating a 3-sided coop for the summer.
