What type of silkie?

Can you please tell me how you decided it's a boy? I have 4 chicks and can't tell anything. I'm desperate to learn.

Since he's a young bird, (I can tell just by looking but before you get the hang of that, I would say anything below 16 weeks is pretty young for a Silkie) and he looks somewhere between 8-12-ish weeks. Since he has a bright red comb and is young, he is a cockerel. Now if this bird were 4-5 months that rule becomes questionable because it could be a pullet approaching sexual maturity. At that age, streamers and shoulder patches would be pretty good indicators!

Yep, that sounds just about right. I was debating if he were buff cream (porcelain) or lemon cuckoo and lemon blue cuckoo looks absolutely correct!

I might need you to sex all my silkies cannot fell for the life of me but him! He’s the only one I suspected cockerel

Can you break that down for me. These color/patterns are new to me

Sorry I mistyped and wrote "blue buff" when I should have wrote "blue cream." I went into Brahma autopilot mode and wrote a Brahma variety. I edited my original post! To me, it looks like black tailed buff was diluted with blue which makes all the black that grey/blue color plus some barring on top which gives him his stripes across the width of the feather. I can't guarantee this is the exact breakdown because Silkie varieties are named rather strangely but that's what it looks like to me!

Very interesting! I’m learning all of this and how certain parents can make xyz babies. I have 12 different silkies and showgirls different colors and frizzle etc so curious how they can all mingle and mangle and make babies
