what unusual food did you feed your flock today?

Mine wont eat bananas, which stinks! They eat pretty much anything else, especially cherry tomatoes, grapes, and broccoli. toaday the got cous cous which they LOVE! Dont u have to worry about the chicken bones when u let them pick at a carcasss?

Wholemeal bread soaked in the fish oil that dripped from the salmon I grilled last night. They love it.....although it does mean the poop board will be a bit messy tomorrow!!

bread pieces with bacon greese and red pepper flakes... Oh yeah and fresh liver from the bull we processed yesterday... They loved it. I don't usually feed anything but chicken food and bread and veggies but they are not laying so I am trying protein and red pepper flakes. I hope I don't kill em

Just kitchen scraps: chocolate pudding, old banana, strawberry tops, leftover Chinese food, cereal with milk, pizza crusts, spagetti from the plates the kids didn't finish, stale popcorn...

Mine will eat the bananas but not the skins
I find femurs and an occasional large heavy bone but they actually devour the rest, good for them, recycling to the max!

During the winter I've been feeding the girls two "hot meals" to help them stay warm and productive. These are in addition to their corn/crumble feed. They get half an apple, or a small potato chopped (not too small), two slices of toast cubed, some fat (bacon or sausage grease, canola oil, meat trimmings) and appropriate leftovers. We never leave french fries, or anything else, in a restaurant anymore. It all goes into the doggie bag, chookie sack. They also get cantaloupe and pineapple trimmings, dried out cheese, tag ends of boxes of cereal and crackers. They get any really dirty eggs right back scrambled and mixed in their extra meal.

During the summer they are not going to get the extras, but they'll still get the veggie trimmings, some bread or crunchy starch, and the favorite, Corn on the cob. It's amazing how much they get off a cob which you've just cleaned off for dinner. There's usually a few halves of ears left over besides the ones we've eaten.

If I could only get them to eat slugs.

tossed salad, salmon, jalapeno cheese corn meal muffins, lima beans (cooked) and rice....it was a combination of things in the frig. and my co-workers lunch from yesterday...that I always bring home to them.

During these cold winter days we've been mixing up a mush we give our Gals and they go crazy over it. We take a large pitcher, probably about a gallon and pour in a cup and a half of oatmeal, then about a cup of dried potato flakes, a quarter cup of sugar, and a couple of teaspoons of crushed red pepper flakes. To this we add about two quarts of hot tap water and mix it all up. When I get out to the run where I keep their pellets in a large covered trash barrel I pour in a scoop of pellets and mix everything up in a heavy mush. Then I pour it out in a large terracota saucer and stand back. They love it and I think its been a factor in the Gals have been laying so well through all this cold weather. Sometimes we add a cup of yougart to it too. Sometimes a little powdered milk. You can add in some leftover beans or whatever and they'll go for it. I just think they need a little extra carbs now to get them through the cold days and nights.
