what unusual food did you feed your flock today?

mine eat just about anything as a treat...but during the winter they get "Super Worms" as a treat. Very high in protein and fat. I always give them warm water in the morning and handfuls of alfalfa hay to pick at too.

On the subject of hot peppers..It my understanding that birds do not feel the heat. Peppers specifically evolved to be hot to mammals, so mammals would not eat them and birds would. Birds eat them and the seeds pass through undamaged and the peppers can spread and grow.

What weird stuff did my chickens eat today.. Well they ate a Balsam tree branch.

I guess they like the pine flavor..

I just threw out a cut up apple, some leftover brown rice, a couple of dinner rolls, and leftover red wine, Valdisanti 2007. (OK just kidding about the wine

) My five hens are spoiled; they wanted me to break up the dinner rolls first.

I discovered mine like my tegu's main staple which is raw liver mixed with ground raw turkey with two tablespoons of codliver oil.

I gave them a plate today and they were fighting over it, gone in mere seconds & then they peck the plate clean as a whistle!

My girls LOVE bananas...can't get enuff !!! Today had lots of dried cranberries...."Crasins". Subway lady saves lots of asst rolls for them. But I try not to give them too much.
They have a turkey carcass for tomorrow morning. The last one we gave them I can tell you within 15 mins it was all gone ! I buy them bags of lettuce on sale...or marked down. They are fabulous at cleaning up the fridge and cabinets ! Nothing goes to waste here. Sour milk, yogurt and sour cream added to their oatmeal.
Emmmmmm Yummo !!
