what unusual food did you feed your flock today?

OK...this is my first post...lazy, lazy me! We have had the girls (6 golden buffs) since July 09; started pullets from Meyer Hatchery in Polk Oh. And now the point of this post...Are you folks serious!!!!! You have been feeding your girls all this food I thought should only go to pigs????? Why am I paying for the dumpster to have it hauled away!!! I am so embarressed! I have only been giving what I thought was "chicken appropriate" extras. Fruit, veggies, cereals, scratch. And I read somewhere too much fruit is no good for them...something about it may cause them to lay too large eggs and hurt their chicken insides. So I came here to check out the fruit issue and this is what I find? Oh, my fridge will be empty tomorrow!!!

pizza, rice, fries, hushpuppies, lemon pepper shrimp, ribs, cornbread, stir fry, rice milk, emptied the fridge today when I got home

Mine were sharing pork juices from us having pork tenderloin last night with the kittycattys, that is of course, until Supermario pecked Spottycat on the nose and Spottycat ran for his life to the barn. He didn't stop the whole way down the hill.

New England Clam Chowder with bacon grease, a handful of oatmeal, a piece of stale banana cake and some wilted lettuce, and a few stale Fritos- warmed in the microwave for 30 seconds... they all tried to kiss me when it was gone (3 minutes later!).

I find myself makin more than I no we will eat at dinner so i can give the "leftovers"
to the chickens.
If I don't give them some kind of leftovers or treats everyday they give me the "look".
You all no that look!! LOL!!

Ahhh yes the "look" LOL! One of my hens will not let me forget to give them treats everyday, if I do she comes up to the door and taps on it with her beak until I mix something up for them..... Persistant little stinkers

Chickens will eat anything! I don't advise giving them any spoiled foods. But left overs a few days old will not hurt them. I also read somewhere that too much fruit is not good for layers so mine only get a small amount. Of course, I don't like letting my fruit go bad anyway. I love fruit myself! I even take the leftovers I have from dining out back home to my chickens. Last weeken they got leftover omelete from Ihop.
