33lbs B.B.White turkey is what we are having for thanksgiving dinner. that I raised from April to September, he didn't get to go to the fair, but another one of my Toms did and I got reserve grand champion with it
broud breasted bronze hen she weighs 26 lbs live weight .... She will be butcher tommorow ....Today was doing one of the monster toms we had running around his live weight was 48 lbs live weight he is now ground and his bones are making a wonderful stock for gravy and soups. yummy.... The tom was best youth turkey at fowlfest this yr and grandchampion turkey at our fair
Last Saturday 2 bbwhites and 4 beltsvilles were hanging in the backyard....We have already eaten part of the BB's...I had to quarter them they were too big....But on Thanksgiving it will be a 17# beltsville tom....Not my table but my mom's...I'm anxious to try it out in comparison to the "factory" birds.
Sunday we processed 2 Midget Whites and 2 Bourbon Reds... one each went to friends, leaving me to decide which to cook for our dinner. Bourbon Red... Midget White... I just can't make up my mind and might wind up cooking them both!
I'm thinking about raising some midget whites next year. Are they a breed I could coop up at night with my free ranging buff orp chickens? (Blackhead isn't an issue in this area.) I have 6' fences around most of the property but a section is 4'. So far the chickens don't leave the 2 acres. Would the turkeys?
Judging from how WONDERFUL the rooster we processed was I imagine the turkey would be out of this world!
We got our turkeys late this year, so grocery store turkey for Thanksgiving, cooked by my husband in his big ole smoker.
The two BB White boys will be Christmas dinner.
