We got these chicks from a breeder 10 weeks ago. We all thought they were Mille fleur d’uccles when we picked out chicks but I’m now noticing hey have more gray feathers and not necessarily looking Mille-like. The cockerel is gorgeous! Just wondering is anyone has an idea of what variety these might be?

I looked up the blue buff columbian and they sure do look similar!! I emailed the breeder and she seems confident they are Mille fleur d’uccles and they are going to change more after their first molt. I do feel like she knows her birds pretty well but I was just wanting other opinions. I got new pictures that show the comparison of the birds that are all the same age, coming from the same breeder. The pics show 3 Mille fleur d’uccles and there is a gold neck d’uccle hen back there :) They are now almost 12 weeks old. Anyone that has bred and followed Mille fleur d’uccle development have opinions?? Thanks!!

Cockerel is a Blue Buff Columbian "could be out of Millie Fleurs though". Pullets are a Millie Fleur and a Blue Millie Fleur "not very good spots though". They could get more spots after their next molt.

Thanks for your response and your knowledge!! I don’t understand the “could be out of Mille fleurs though” statement. Does that mean they aren’t d’uccles? Also does the blue color show sometimes without breeding specifically for it?

Millie Fleur is one of those patterns that can throw off colors. Usually Buff Columbian, Black Tailed Buff, or Buff Mottled. So if a person hatched 100 Millie Fleur d'Uccles you'd undoubtedly get a small percentage the would be off colored.

If they are showing blue then there has been blue mixed in somewhere back through the generations.
