What was your first breed(s)?

I have 2 red sex links and they are okay and have pretty cream colored eggs.Red sex links are also called "Stars".

I can name every bird I've ever had...but instead, I'll give a timeline!

When I was 4 years old:
We got 4 females. Two RIR hens (spent layers) and two Single Combed Black Minorca
Got a RIR male. Mind you, this was back before I knew of show quality birds..so they were production reds. The Minorcas were actually really good quality.

The man who had the hens was just going to kill them, so Dad asked him if he could bring them to our house. Dad had ever intention of making them lay, and then eating them. That first night, we didn't even have a coop or pen built. They had to spend the night outside in a cardboard box (because they were trying to roost on the fence line).

I kept waking up all night just to check on them.



Dad said from that point on, I was hooked.

Rhode Island Reds

Four Rhode Island Reds and a Black Australorp. They were pretty awesome. Two and three months old when I got them.

We got RSL's from TSC. Got ten, only one died, because a cat got in the brooder when they were only a few weeks old. They are awesome layers
