What was your hatch rate with your first order of shipped eggs?

My first shipped eggs experience was with quail, bought 75 eggs and 56 hatched. I haven't seen anything like that again, and I'm not new to incubating.

24 B/S Maran eggs... I have two pullets.
12 Wheaten Penedsenca (sp?) ... 0
12 Light Brahma... 0
4 Golden Lakenvelder, 3 hatched (weird! Same seller as the two types above!)

Such a change from when I first started hatching my own eggs, 100% was normal. Never saw anything less than 90%. Now though, I don't have a rooster, and there aren't many breeders locally who have not-hatchery breeding groups... so besides a road trip, I don't have another option besides shipping eggs. I keep trying because I keep getting girls when eggs DO hatch. Out of the 3 Lakenvelders, 2 were girls.

I tried ducks too, both times 2 made it to lockdown. 1 on the first batch came out, neither one in the next hatch. The only duck that hatched, is a girl. So I ordered the breed I wanted from Holderreads since they sell various qualities. I know for sure it wasn't me, because I set local eggs as well, and got 100% with them.

First hatch, We had 42 eggs and hatched 9. 1 died the same day so we now have 8.

Second hatch, We had 24 eggs and now have 2 in lockdown, 1 is currently zipping. I hope that the other one makes it as I would like it to have a buddy.

After this hatch (our last), We will be putting 12 eggs into the incubator and will be happy if two of each hatch: 6 bantam silkie eggs and 6 lavender Sablepoots.

I'm on day 24 of incubation of my second hatch (but first hatch with shipped eggs) and I'm getting mixed results that don't look good for the shipped.eggs.

On july 2nd I set 5 silkie eggs from a local supplier here in marin and 16 maran eggs shipped from georgia. I bought 14 eggs but the supplier shipped 18. Two were smashed during shipping.

At lockdown one of the maran eggs was stinky so I tossed it. It showed no signs of development when I opened it at day 18.

On day 21, 3 out of 5 silkie eggs hatched and the chicks are doing great. I moved them out of the incubator late on day 22.

So far, I'm 0 for 15 on the maran eggs and not holding out much hope. I did the float test on day 23 and saw some wobbling. I opened up 3 of the eggs showing no movement and 2 out of 3 showed no signs of development the 3rd appeared to have quit early (day 10 or so).

I candled the 2 remaining slkie eggs on day 23 and one was clear and the other appeared to have quit early. I opened them an confirmed the clear was a non started but the other was actually fully developed but appeared to have died (I hope I didn't kill it).

I'm out of town until tomorrow but my wife is watching them. If nothing happens before tomorrow I'll open the rest of the remaining 12 marans and see. Should I wait beyond day 25 and a half?

I have 12 more shipped silkie eggs from a diff supplier also in georgia in my homemade incubator. Their hatch date is Saturday so I'm crossing my fingers.

If I'm seeing no development when I open the maran eggs is that likely to be a fertilization problem or a packing/shipping problem or either / both?

Hatched 10 of 14 Orpington eggs shipped from Iowa to TX in June - 71%
Hatched 15 of 24 Orpington eggs shipped in TX to me only 75 miles away in July - 62%

Used a Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance EX

I found it interesting that I had a better hatch rate on the eggs that traveled further and one day longer in shipping- it's been hot the entire summer so I don't think heat was an issue. All unhatched eggs showed development with different stage death times.

Mine came from Kentucky (The seller did an excellent job packaging the eggs) and all but one made it to lockdown. Out of 23 eggs 1 has hatched and one is pipped. Today is day 25 and they are still hatching so I guess my temperatures were way too low at some point and I didnt realize?

Let us know your results when they hatch. I am very interested to know if there is a difference between the two of them.

My last order went as follows : 6 BBV (none)
6 White Silkie (1 hatched)
6 Blue Ameraucana (4 hatched)
12 Orpington variety (11 hatched)

The Orpington's and the Ameraucana did well, except 2 of the Orpington's were miss marked and were actually light brahmas. The bantams unfortunately did not do so well, and the first time I ordered eggs they were all bantam breeds and very poor hatch rates. I am not certain if they are more fragile or if it was the distance in travel.
