What was your worst job?

I was young too, just out of high school. It was for a timeshare place at the beach. I think I lasted about the same amount of time... something about bugging the snot out of people every evening wasn't very fun.

I can't pick a specific one, there have been many! I guess the worst is working for a family business, knowing you will never get the pay and privileges that the family gets. That happened several times to me.

The good ones are the ones I remember... driving a horse drawn carriage for a tour company, OM for a clam farm. Both had their problems, but I was pretty much left alone to do what I thought was right. And both were dirty jobs!

I had one weird job working for a well known spice/seasoning manufacturer. I had this cabinet full of little jars with samples of everything they made, and the list of what they needed to make that week. My job was to schedule the order in which the seasonings should be made according to colour and flavour in order to maximise manufacturing time and minimise cleaning time for the machinery. All hell would break loose because there was a storm in some remote location and we couldn't get the ingredients in, or they failed inspection.

The actual job wasn't rotten (although boring) and paid $18 an hour. The problem was that I worked in a cubicle in a fluorescent-lit office without a single window. It was winter, so dark when I arrived and dark when I left. We had half an hour for lunch so no time to leave, and had to eat at an assigned time with the rest of the department in assigned seats.

Its a toss up. I was a stock girl/ cashire at the local IGA for a while. That was crappy.

But I think the WORST was a nannying gig, full time, three girls (7 months 27 months and 8 years). The set up was just wrong, and I didnt realize it until I was IN the job. The house was HUGE with all the bedrooms upstairs on one end of the house, yet the 2 year old's room was at the end of a utility hall, in a glorified closet, off the garage. You literally had to go through every room of the house just to get to it. And I suspected there was sexual abuse going on with her with the dad, and he was a detective for the state police everything about him seemed so fake and weird. He was home until 11 AM yet i had to be there at 7, and he would spent those hours upstairs with the 2 year old alone. She wouldnt let me change her diaper and would SCREAM and cry if I touched her.... He insistd one day he had to take my truck to work and I had to take his van home as a result. I dont know what he was doing, but things were so creepy I felt like he was trying to pin something on me. My truck smelled chemically when he brought it back, and both the seats were jacked around and in weird positions.

It was scary, and horrible. I ran away from that job a week in! I couldnt accuse him of anything because I had nothing more than suspicion. I always wonder how those kids turned out.

UGH. Worse jobs ever.

Telemarketer.

"You want me to do what?????"

I lasted 15 minutes during which I made a call to an elderly man who declined the offer and I said ok, have a great evening. My supervisor said I needed to push and get them to buy even if they couldn't afford it.

You made me think about another job I had while I was in college. I was in school for vet med tech and this lawyer posted a help wanted sign on one of the bulletin boards at school. It was for animal care for his dogs and wolf hybrids, as well as general housekeeping. Well, the animal care part was pretty good, but the housekeeping part was pretty bad since the couple I worked for were absolute slobs. Still, I got along with them and enjoyed the wife's company, since she was in her early 20s and I was 19. She was very pregnant with their first child so I would try to help her out as much as I could. They had a basement apartment they eventually offered to rent to me. It was a good deal cheaper than where I was living and, since I worked for them, I thought it would be great to live there too. Everything was okay, at first. I'd eat dinner with them sometimes and one night the husband (who was probably in his late 30s or early 40s) said he wanted to talk to me about something. Then he proceeded to tell me that he and and his wife had an open marriage and he basically came right out and asked if I would sleep with him, with his wife's blessing.

I remember having to sit down after the words came out of his mouth. Needless to say, I moved out of there ASAP! Creep!

I'll have to say it's a toss up between telemarketing back when I was a kid out of high school or the mall security job.

I have to admit though they were both motivational.

.....Alan.

I worked at Target on an overnight shift unloading trucks, etc. I didn't mind the work so much, and I loved the hours. It was the way they ran the place, and some of the people that worked there. It was run like a prison, you weren't allowed to go to your car on your break, you had to take your break in this very tiny room that had everyone shoved in it. My Dh was in Italy, and he was 6 hours ahead of us. I would talk to him on my break since I wouldn't be able to talk to him for the rest of the day. I had to stand out in the hallway to talk or to hear him. Well, they didn't like that.
Then if you had to use the bathroom, you got yelled at. I saw one girl get berated for stopping her work to use the restroom. The poor girl was so scared, she went back to what she was doing, no bathroom. Had that been me, I would have gone to the bathroom anyway.
Some of the people working there were just miserable to the point you hated being around them. If that makes any sense. After awhile, I understood why some of them were so miserable. I refuse to ever shop there now after that experience.

HOLEY MOLEY! That is awful! What has this world come to? Stuff like that really scares me....... What is up with the whole open marraige thing? What couple in this world would knowingly allow their spouse to cheat on them and be ok with it?
